Sr. Strategic Communications Specialist (Level IV)

ABOUT THE ROLE
VentureScope is seeking a Senior Strategic Communications Specialist (Level IV) to support senior leadership, program offices, and mission portfolios across the U.S. Space Force and Space Systems Command, with emphasis on military space and emerging technology initiatives.
This role provides senior-level leadership in strategic communications, shaping how complex acquisition programs, architectures, and innovation efforts are communicated across leadership, Congress, industry, and the broader workforce. You will play a key role in aligning messaging across portfolios, advising leadership, and ensuring communication efforts support mission execution and capability adoption.
We are looking for a highly experienced communicator who combines deep understanding of defense acquisition and space missions with the ability to develop clear, compelling narratives in fast-paced, high-visibility environments. Pay Transparency Range: $160,000 - $180,000 / year
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead development and execution of integrated strategic communication strategies supporting complex acquisition programs and mission portfolios
Advise senior government leadership on messaging alignment, narrative development, communication timing, and stakeholder engagement risks
Develop and oversee enterprise-aligned messaging frameworks that connect technical, operational, and programmatic objectives
Translate complex architectures, acquisition strategies, and innovation efforts into clear, decision-relevant communication products
Lead and coordinate cross-program communication efforts to ensure consistency, alignment, and strategic coherence across portfolios
Support major program milestones and campaigns, including launch activities, congressional engagements, and industry outreach
Align communication strategies with innovation lifecycle efforts, enabling more effective transition and adoption of emerging technologies
Lead planning and execution of high-visibility engagements, events, and communication campaigns
Oversee development of multi-format deliverables (briefings, reports, articles, videos, and visual products) under compressed timelines
Facilitate and lead communication working groups, ensuring coordination across stakeholders and organizations
Mentor and guide junior communications staff, providing direction on product development, messaging, and quality standards
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Extensive experience developing and executing strategic communications for complex defense or space programs
Demonstrated ability to advise senior leadership and shape messaging at the enterprise level
Strong understanding of Space Force / Air Force acquisition environments, including PPBE, congressional engagement, and program documentation
Exceptional ability to translate highly technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate across multiple programs or portfolios
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats and audiences
Experience managing high-visibility efforts under tight timelines
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across organizations
Clearance eligible
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
12+ years of relevant experience in strategic communications, acquisition support, or mission-focused communication roles
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, business, STEM, or related field required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in communications, public policy, business, or related field
Experience supporting Space Force, Air Force, or defense acquisition programs
Familiarity with R-Docs, acquisition strategies, congressional reporting, GAO/IG reports, or similar materials
Experience supporting innovation, technology transition, or emerging capability portfolios
Background in journalism, media, or defense-focused writing
